Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus Demonstrations, ShoWare Center in Kent, WA
Northwest Animal Rescue Network (NARN), September 1st, 2011
On the evening of Spetember 1st, approximately 40 people peacefully protested the cruel practice of using elephants in circuses and animals for entertainment. Ringling Bros has continued to use elephants in their live shows despite increasing public sentiment against this type of explotation.
Circus elephants are typically removed from their complex social relationships at an early age to live a lifetime of abuse at the hands of trainers. The cruel practice of training circus animals through extreme abuse, including beatings and bull hooks, has been extensively documented. Elephants in particular suffer through horrific training exercises and forced performances for most of their captive lives.
